Former Metropolitan Police PC Cliff Mitchell, aged 23, has been charged with six further counts of rape. Mitchell, who was attached to the West Area Basic Command Unit, was charged on Wednesday, 6 December with three counts of rape of a girl aged under 13 and three counts of rape of a girl aged 13/14/15. These offences all involve the same victim and allegedly took place between 2014 and 2017 at an address in south-west London.
Mitchell is scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, 13 December. In relation to these charges, Mitchell was dismissed from the Metropolitan Police on Thursday, 7 December.
Deputy Assistant Commissioner Stuart Cundy acknowledged the potential concern these charges may cause among Londoners, especially during a time when efforts are being made to rebuild confidence and trust. However, to avoid prejudicing the ongoing criminal proceedings, he specified it would be inappropriate to provide further comment at this time.
