A terrifying fire ripped through a luxury residential complex in Goodman’s Fields, Aldgate this evening, prompting a massive emergency response.

The London Fire Brigade was called to the scene on Leman Street shortly before 5.45pm, where a blaze had broken out in a fifth-floor flat. At the height of the incident, fifteen fire engines and around 100 firefighters were battling the flames.

Videos shared on social media showed bright orange flames engulfing one apartment, with thick plumes of black smoke drifting up to higher floors. One flat on the seventh floor was also reported to be affected, LFB said.

Crews from Whitechapel, Shadwell, Shoreditch, Dowgate, Bethnal Green and surrounding stations were mobilised, with a 64-metre turntable ladder deployed to provide a strategic aerial view for incident commanders.

Fire Sweeps Through Prestigious Goodman’s Fields Development

Goodman’s Fields is part of a high-end, award-winning mixed-use development described as offering “luxury living and vibrant city lifestyle” just a stone’s throw from the City of London. A two-bedroom apartment in the block recently sold for £1.1 million.

The development is built on the site of a former Royal Mail sorting office and has become a symbol of Aldgate’s transformation into one of London’s premier residential quarters.

Cause Unknown – Urgent Operations Underway

The cause of the fire has yet to be determined, and the incident has been classified as a “fifteen-pump fire,” indicating a serious emergency with a large-scale response.

Firefighters are believed to be carrying out urgent search and rescue operations, though no injuries or casualties have yet been confirmed.

A London Fire Brigade spokesperson said:

“We were called at 5:43pm to a fire at an apartment on Leman Street. Part of a fifth-floor flat was alight, and the fire had spread to part of a seventh-floor flat. We remain at the scene with significant resources deployed.”

Public Urged to Avoid Area

Leman Street and surrounding roads have been cordoned off while emergency services continue to work at the scene. Police are also assisting with crowd control and public safety.

Residents in neighbouring blocks and nearby businesses have been urged to keep windows closed due to smoke, and avoid the area to allow emergency services to carry out their operations safely.

The fire has drawn widespread attention online, with many expressing shock at the scale of the blaze. The full extent of the damage is not yet clear.

The London Fire Brigade is expected to release an update later this evening.
