Bayo Dosunmu, the chief executive of Lambeth Council, has resigned following charges of drunk driving, possession of a class A drug, and failing to stop after a crash. Lambeth Council confirmed that Dosunmu would officially step down from his role next Monday, July 15.
Dosunmu, 46, has been on leave since last month when he was arrested by police in Westminster over the incident. He was charged on June 24 with possession of a class A controlled drug, failing to stop after an accident, driving above the prescribed alcohol limit, and using a motor vehicle in a public place without third-party insurance.
Dosunmu, a resident of Hammersmith, is scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on August 1.
Appointed as chief executive of Lambeth Council in April 2022, Dosunmu succeeded Andrew Travers. He joined Lambeth in 2019 from Homes England, where he had served as the council’s deputy chief executive and strategic director for resident services.
Fiona Connolly, the council’s corporate director of housing and adult social care, is currently serving as acting chief executive. Lambeth Council has announced plans to begin the recruitment process for a new permanent chief executive soon.
In a statement, Lambeth Council expressed its disappointment and reassured residents that the council’s operations would continue smoothly during this transition period. “We are committed to maintaining the highest standards of service and governance for our community,” a spokesperson said.
Dosunmu’s resignation marks a significant leadership change for Lambeth Council, which will now seek to move forward and address the challenges ahead.
