A car transporter was stopped by the Roads Policing Unit on the A1 near Grantham after officers suspected the driver was using the vehicle for commercial purposes without proper authorization.
The driver initially claimed both vehicles on the transporter were for personal use. However, officers quickly uncovered online company reviews suggesting the transporter was being used for business purposes, contrary to the driver’s statement.
As a result, the driver was issued with a fixed penalty notice for the offence. The transporter was also immobilised for 11 hours, preventing further travel until compliance was ensured.
A spokesperson for the Roads Policing Unit said: “We take commercial transport regulations seriously. Businesses operating without the correct licenses and insurance place themselves and other road users at risk. We will continue to take action where necessary.”
The operation forms part of wider efforts to crack down on unsafe and illegal transport practices along key arterial routes.
Motorists are reminded to ensure their use of vehicles complies with the appropriate licensing and insurance laws or risk facing similar penalties.
