A man got a shock while gardening this week when he unearthed a live hand grenade buried in his back garden.
The resident, who lives on Queens Avenue, had been digging up a bush on Wednesday afternoon when he struck the device just inches beneath the soil.
WW2 Mills Grenade Found
On closer inspection, the item was identified as a Second World War Mills grenade, a type commonly used by British forces during the 1940s.
The man immediately alerted authorities. Police attended the scene and called in a specialist bomb disposal unit.
Controlled Explosion
The grenade was safely removed and transported away from the property, where experts carried out a controlled explosion to neutralise the device.
