A Croydon resident has been charged with making a bomb hoax after allegedly leaving a suspicious box at the One Croydon high-rise, also known as the 50p Building.
Guillermo Gomez, 45, of Cherry Orchard Road, is accused of placing a box containing various items at the well-known Croydon landmark with the intent to cause fear that it might explode or ignite.

Court Appearance
Gomez appeared in custody at Croydon Crown Court on Monday, November 18, where the case was heard by His Honour Judge Antony Dunne. The judge adjourned the case to allow for further proceedings on a later date.
Investigation and Public Safety
The incident prompted a swift response from emergency services and law enforcement, who ensured the safety of the public and investigated the scene.
Authorities have reassured residents and workers in the area that public safety remains a priority and any suspicious activity will be treated with urgency.

Legal Context
Making a bomb hoax is a serious offence under UK law, often resulting in significant penalties. Authorities remind the public that such acts cause unnecessary fear, waste critical emergency resources, and can lead to long-lasting consequences for the perpetrator.
The case will return to court for further hearings.
