A dramatic early morning fire beneath the Lea Valley Viaduct near the A406 in Chingford prompted a major emergency response, with a number of fire engines sent to tackle the blaze from the London Fire Brigade.

The  Brigade was called to the scene just before 6am on Thursday (April 17) after reports of a Blaze near Cooks Ferry Roundabout, N18.

The fire was declared under control and cleared by 7:19am, but not before causing significant disruption to road and bus routes in the area.

The incident took place on the south side of Cooks Ferry Roundabout, blocking westbound traffic as firefighters responded to the scene under the A406 Lea Valley Viaduct.

Bus routes 34 and 444 were affected by the incident:

  • Route 34 towards Barnet was disrupted at the Cooks Ferry exit slip from the A406.

  • Route 444 towards Turnpike Lane faced delays from Hall Lane.

Transport for London confirmed the fire has since been dealt with and traffic has begun to resume normal flow, although residual delays may persist during the morning rush hour.
