Police investigating the disappearance of 46-year-old Cumali Turhan have found a body at a landfill site in Essex.
Investigation Timeline
- Cumali Turhan was reported missing from Chelmsford on Monday, 18 November 2024.
- Detectives immediately launched an investigation, citing serious concerns for his welfare.
- After 45 days of intensive searches, police have now confirmed the body found on Saturday, 11 January is that of Cumali Turhan.
Ongoing Investigation & Appeal for Information
Detective Chief Inspector Louise Metcalfe, who is leading the investigation, praised officers for their resilience and dedication:
“Specialist officers have been working diligently at the landfill site under extreme conditions. Their determination has been critical in progressing this challenging case.”
Suspect Identified – Public Urged to Assist
Police are actively seeking Ceyhan Dinler, 38, from Chelmsford, who has been identified as a suspect in the case.
- Dinler left the UK via Stansted Airport on the same day Cumali Turhan was last seen.
- Investigators urge anyone with information about Dinler’s whereabouts to come forward.

Court Proceedings & Legal Action
Another suspect, Ciprian Ilie, 44, has already been charged in connection with the case.
- Ilie appeared at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court on 23 December, where he pleaded not guilty to:
- Assisting an offender (murder)
- Preventing lawful and decent burial of a body
- He has been remanded in custody, with a trial date set for September 2025.
