Investigation Continues into Clapham Shooting Incident
Police have confirmed that investigations are ongoing to find those responsible for an incident where two women were shot in Clapham.
The incident occurred on Friday, March 1, just before 5 p.m., when police were following a moped being ridden by two individuals who had failed to stop in the Clapham area.
During the pursuit, the moped collided with a 27-year-old man, and subsequently crashed. The man was then taken to the hospital for treatment.
One of the suspects, who was carrying a shotgun, dropped the weapon, causing it to fire as it struck the ground while the suspects fled on foot. Two women in the street, aged 27 and 36, sustained shotgun pellet injuries. Fortunately, they were not deliberately targeted and were also taken to the hospital by ambulance. All three victims have since been released from hospital.
As of today, March 4, police have confirmed that officers are still actively investigating to “identify those responsible”. The Independent Office for Police Conduct has been informed of the incident, and there have been no arrests at this stage.
DCI Gemma Alger of Specialist Crime stated, “Our investigation to identify the two people responsible is at an early stage, but we will be relentless in following up every line of enquiry to arrest them.”
She further added, “The suspects fled the scene on foot. Crime scenes remain in place in St Alphonsus Road as forensic searches are ongoing at premises where the suspects made off through gardens. The shotgun was recovered from the scene and this will also be subject to forensic analysis.”
DCI Alger urged anyone with information about the incident, including witnesses or individuals with CCTV or dashcam footage, to come forward. She also assured the local community that officers would be providing reassurance in the area.
A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police emphasised that enquiries are ongoing to identify those responsible and stated, “We’ll issue any arrest proactively, of course.”
