A three-year-old boy was struck by a car in Liverpool on Friday afternoon and remains in a stable condition in hospital. The driver, a 47-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and driving while unfit through drugs.

The incident occurred on Smithdown Road near the junction of Hartington Road at around 3:30 p.m. Police were called to the scene and found the injured child. He was taken to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital by ambulance, where he remains in stable condition.

The driver of the car, a Skoda, stopped at the scene and was arrested by police. He is currently in custody helping with inquiries.

A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said: “We are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information to contact us.”

The road was closed for several hours while police conducted their investigations, but has since reopened.
