Police have launched an appeal for witnesses after an elderly man was seriously injured in a collision with a car on Reading Road North earlier today.

Emergency services were called at 9.42am to reports of a crash involving a grey Smart Fortwo and a pedestrian. The pedestrian, a man in his 80s, sustained serious injuries and was rushed to hospital by paramedics for urgent treatment. His condition is not yet known.

The road has been closed in both directions while officers carry out a detailed investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident. Authorities are urging motorists to avoid the area, warning that the closure is expected to remain in place for several hours.

A police spokesperson said:

“We are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the collision, the events leading up to it, or the aftermath. If you were in the area at the time and saw anything, please get in touch.”

Police are particularly keen to hear from drivers who may have dashcam footage from the area around the time of the incident, which could assist with their enquiries.

Anyone with information is urged to call 101, quoting reference 0397 of 21 April, or submit details via the police website at: https:///orlo.uk/jcEpk.

Further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
