A 41-year-old chef, Mussie Imnetu, who was visiting the UK from Dubai, has tragically died from injuries sustained during an attack near Notting Hill Carnival. Mussie, who had worked under renowned chefs Gordon Ramsay and Marcus Wareing, was found unconscious with a severe head injury outside the Dr Power restaurant in Queensway on the evening of Monday, August 26.

Mussie, who was in London on a visit, had left The Arts Club in Dover Street, Mayfair, earlier that day and was later attacked outside the restaurant at approximately 11:22 pm. Customers at the venue tried to intervene and help stop the assault before police officers arrived and provided emergency first aid. Despite the efforts of paramedics and medical staff, Mussie succumbed to his injuries in a west London hospital on Friday, August 30.

His death has left his family, friends, and colleagues across London, Dubai, Sweden, and Eritrea devastated. Detective Chief Inspector Brian Howie, leading the investigation from the Met’s murder squad, described the family’s grief as “inconsolable” and assured that they are being supported by specialist officers.

Arrest and Ongoing Investigation

Omar Wilson, 31, of Napier Road, Leytonstone, was arrested and charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent in connection with the incident. He appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on August 30 and was remanded in custody. He is scheduled to appear at Southwark Crown Court on September 27. With Mussie’s death, the charges are expected to be reviewed in conjunction with the Crown Prosecution Service.

The Metropolitan Police are urging anyone who may have seen Mussie between 1 pm when he left The Arts Club and 10:30 pm when he arrived at the Dr Power restaurant to come forward. Detective Chief Inspector Howie emphasized the importance of piecing together Mussie’s movements during these critical hours and appealed for any witnesses or individuals with relevant information, images, or videos to contact the authorities.

Police Appeal and Community Engagement

As part of their ongoing investigation, officers will be present outside the Dr Power restaurant and in the surrounding area on Monday, September 2, from 9 pm to distribute appeal leaflets and speak with local residents one week after the murder. They are particularly keen to speak with anyone who visited the restaurant between 10 pm and 11:30 pm on the night of the attack.

Anyone with information is encouraged to call the police on 101, message @MetCC on X, or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111, referencing 8020/26AUG.
