A man who orchestrated a shooting that left a nine-year-old girl with life-changing injuries has been sentenced to life in prison, with a minimum term of 34 years. The sentence was delivered by the judge on Friday, 12 September, at the england/old-bailey/”>Old Bailey.

Details of the Crime

Javon Riley, 33, of Moselle Street, Tottenham, was found guilty of attempted murder of three men and causing grievous bodily harm to the young girl during a trial that lasted three Weeksweeks. The shooting occurred on Wednesday, 29 May 2024, in Kingsland Road, Dalston.

During the incident, a gunman, hired by Riley, opened fire outside a busy restaurant. One bullet struck the girl in the brain as she enjoyed ice cream with her family, while the other shots hit three men. All four victims required emergency, life-saving surgery.

Investigation Findings

Detectives revealed that Riley had been observing the area for several days prior to the shooting, even sitting in a bar opposite the restaurant while planning the attack. On the night of the shooting, he drove a stolen car past the restaurant multiple times to confirm the presence of his intended targets.

After the shooting, Riley assisted the gunman in escaping the scene and disposed of the firearm, which has yet to be recovered. A financial reward of up to £15,000 is now being offered for information leading to the identification and arrest of the shooter.

Reactions to the Sentencing

Detective Chief Inspector Joanna Yorke, who led the investigation, stated, “Riley will face the consequences of his actions behind bars. Actions that traumatically derailed the life of a little girl. While this outcome is a reminder that justice can be served, it will never undo the suffering caused to her or her family.”

In a poignant statement, the mother of the injured girl expressed the profound impact of the crime, saying, “In a single moment, the future we had imagined for our daughter was torn away. We live with this pain every day, knowing nothing will ever be the same for our family.”
