A 56-year-old man from Icklingham, Suffolk, has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for a series of sexual offences against children committed between 1999 and 2003.
Richard Taylor, of West Street, Icklingham, was found guilty of 16 charges, including rape, indecent assault, and gross indecency with a child, following a nine-day trial at Ipswich Crown Court. He was sentenced on Friday, 20 September 2024.
In addition to the prison term, Taylor will serve two years on extended licence. His convictions include one count of rape, six counts of indecent assault of a male, and nine counts of gross indecency with a child.
Detective Constable Jen Botting, who led the investigation, praised the bravery of the victims in coming forward. “This was a highly complex and difficult case to investigate,” DC Botting said. “Without their evidence, it would have been extremely hard to secure this conviction and sentence against Taylor.”
She also highlighted the emotional toll on the victims, noting that Taylor’s not guilty plea forced them to relive their traumatic experiences during the trial. The sentence, she stated, would provide some closure and justice for the victims and their families.
DC Botting reaffirmed Suffolk Police’s commitment to thoroughly investigating all allegations of sexual abuse. “We will provide the highest level of support and care to any victim who comes forward,” she added, urging others to report any such crimes without fear.
