A man has been stabbed near a busy convenience store on Woolwich New Road this evening, prompting a major emergency response and the establishment of a crime scene in the town centre.

The incident occurred outside Nisa Local on Woolwich New Road, South East London, at approximately 9:30pm. Witnesses reported a sudden commotion followed by the rapid arrival of police units and paramedics.

The Metropolitan Police have sealed off the area, placing a crime scene cordon around the front of the Nisa store and the adjacent pavement. Forensic officers are examining the scene, and uniformed police remain in attendance to secure the site.

Eyewitness Reports

Local residents and bystanders expressed shock as emergency services arrived in large numbers. “There were flashing blue lights everywhere and police shouting for people to step back. It was chaotic,” said one witness who had been walking along Woolwich New Road.

Area Cordoned Off

Traffic and pedestrian access along Woolwich New Road was partially disrupted as officers worked to preserve the scene. Several bus routes have been temporarily diverted, and Transport for London has issued an advisory for commuters in the area.

Police are expected to issue a formal appeal shortly. Anyone who witnessed the incident or who may have dashcam or CCTV footage is urged to contact police on 101, quoting the incident location and time. Alternatively, anonymous tips can be submitted via Crimestoppers at 0800 555 111.

This latest stabbing follows a number of knife-related incidents across London this week. Residents in Woolwich have previously raised concerns about rising street violence and requested greater patrols in the area.
