Police have launched a murder investigation following the tragic death of David Thompson, a 50-year-old resident of Creswell, who sustained serious head injuries during an assault.
The incident occurred on Elmton Road, near Ours Bar, in the early hours of Saturday, January 27. Despite receiving medical attention, Thompson remained in critical condition until his passing earlier today.
Detectives are actively probing the circumstances surrounding the assault, treating it as a homicide. Detective Inspector Maria Pleace, the Senior Investigating Officer, extended condolences to Mr. Thompson’s family and friends during this difficult period. Family liaison officers are providing support to the family as the investigation progresses.
DI Pleace stressed the importance of gathering information, stating, “We must fully comprehend the events leading up to this tragedy. The timeline of the assault is crucial, as it left David with injuries from which he could not recover.”
In a heartfelt statement, David’s daughter, Emma Thompson, described her father as “full of life” and someone who cherished spending time with his family. She added, “He was always willing to help others.” The family has requested privacy as they mourn their loss.
