A person was left with minor injuries following a major disturbance involving a large group of youths at the Blackheath Easter funfair on Tuesday afternoon.

The incident occurred just before 3.50pm on Prince Charles Road, near Blackheath Common, prompting a swift response from police, ambulance crews, and fire services.

Officers from the Metropolitan Police and teams from the London Ambulance Service (LAS) attended the scene. One individual was treated for minor injuries and was discharged shortly after. The circumstances surrounding how the person was injured remain unclear.

A spokesperson for the LAS confirmed:
“We were called at 3.48pm yesterday (8 April) to reports of an incident in Prince Charles Road, Blackheath. We sent ambulance crews, incident response officers and members of our Tactical Response Unit. We treated one person for minor injuries and discharged them at the scene.”

Police believe the majority of those involved in the disorder had already fled the area by the time officers arrived. However, multiple arrests were made for various offences, including possession of an offensive weapon in a public place. The exact number of arrests has not been confirmed.

In response to the disorder, a Section 60 order was authorised, granting officers enhanced powers to stop and search individuals in the area without needing reasonable suspicion. The order remains in effect for an unspecified duration as investigations continue.

A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said:
“On Tuesday, 8 April, police were made aware of a large group of youths causing disorder on Blackheath Common. Officers are currently on scene dispersing any individuals who may still remain, while the majority were cleared throughout the afternoon.”

“There were several arrests for separate offences, including possession of an offensive weapon in a public place. A Section 60 order has been put in place. Police continue to monitor the situation and enquiries are ongoing.”

The Easter funfair, a popular local attraction, was disrupted by the incident. Police have not confirmed whether the funfair will remain open or whether additional security measures will be put in place.

Locals have expressed concern over the events, with some taking to social media to question the safety of public events during school holidays. Police are urging anyone with information or footage of the incident to come forward as investigations continue.
