A passenger has died three weeks after suffering a head injury from a fall at Island Gardens DLR station, British Transport Police (BTP) have confirmed.
Incident Details
Emergency services were called to Island Gardens station on the Isle of Dogs just before 5:30pm on December 11 after reports of a passenger falling down the stairs.
The individual sustained a serious head injury and was taken to hospital for treatment. Sadly, they passed away on January 3.
Investigation and Coroner’s Report
A spokesperson for BTP stated that the incident is not being treated as suspicious, and a file is being prepared for the coroner.
Transport for London’s Safety Commitment
The incident was first revealed in Transport for London (TfL) board meeting documents on February 5.
TfL emphasized that safety remains their top priority and reiterated their commitment to eliminating all deaths and serious injuries on London’s transport network by 2041, with a target of ensuring no fatalities on or caused by London buses by 2030.
Other Recent Transport Incidents
The TfL report also highlighted other fatal incidents on the transport network in recent months, including:
- December 4: An Elizabeth line staff member died after an assault at Ilford station.
- December 14: A cyclist was seriously injured in a collision with a bus in Streatham Hill and died in hospital two weeks later.
- December 28: A passenger fell inside a moving bus on Finchley Road and later died in hospital.
- November 23: A cyclist was killed in a crash with a bus on Westferry Road, Isle of Dogs.
