A pregnant woman has been rushed to hospital following a hit-and-run collision in Dagenham on Friday night (February 21).
Emergency services were called to Wood Lane at approximately 9:56 PM after reports of a two-car crash. Officers from the Metropolitan Police, alongside crews from the London Fire Brigade and London Ambulance Service, attended the scene.
One of the vehicles involved fled the scene without stopping, leaving behind significant debris and a woman in urgent need of medical attention.
Victim Hospitalised, Road Closed
The woman, who is understood to be pregnant, was taken to hospital for treatment. A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police confirmed her injuries are “not believed to be life-threatening”, but medical staff continue to monitor her condition closely given her pregnancy.
The crash forced the closure of Wood Lane in both directions as emergency responders worked to clear the wreckage and investigate the scene. The road has since reopened.
Police Appeal for Witnesses
An investigation is underway to trace the driver who failed to stop. Officers are reviewing CCTV footage from the area and appealing to the public for any information that could assist their search.
Detective Inspector Sarah Keaton, leading the investigation, said:
“Leaving the scene of an accident, particularly one resulting in injury, is a serious offence. We are urging anyone who witnessed the collision, or who may have dashcam footage, to come forward and help us find the driver responsible.”
