A transgender teenager was brutally stabbed 14 times in a shocking and violent attack during a birthday party in Harrow. Summer Betts-Ramsey, 19, appeared at Willesden Magistrates Court on Tuesday, February 13, charged with attempted murder and possession of an offensive weapon in public in connection with the incident.

The court heard that the victim, an 18-year-old transgender girl, was subjected to transphobic slurs before being viciously assaulted by a group at a roller-skating party. Prosecutor Bunsri Bhuwa confirmed the victim’s gender identity during the hearing.

Emergency services were called to Masons Avenue at 7pm on Saturday following reports of the assault. The victim was found at the scene with multiple stab wounds and was rushed to the hospital. Thankfully, she has since been discharged, although the trauma of the attack will undoubtedly linger.

Betts-Ramsey, visibly emotional, confirmed her details and address in Cricklewood during the court appearance. She will remain in custody until March 12, when her plea hearing is scheduled to take place at the Old Bailey.

After learning of the upcoming court date, Betts-Ramsey requested to speak to her mother, expressing her love as she was escorted back to her cell.

Since the horrifying attack, four individuals have been arrested, and the Metropolitan Police have increased patrols in the area. Detective Inspector Nicola Hannant, leading the investigation, condemned the incident, emphasizing the support provided to the victim and her family.

Detective Inspector Hannant stated, “This was a shocking and violent attack, and we continue to support the victim and her family as she recovers from her injuries. Since the incident occurred, we have been working tirelessly to identify those responsible and are making good progress with our investigation.

The police urge anyone with information about the attack to come forward and assist in the investigation. Patrols in the area have been intensified, and residents are encouraged to approach officers with any information or concerns they may have.

If you have information related to the incident, please call 101 with reference 6306/10Feb or contact the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

This appalling attack serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing struggle against hate crimes, particularly those targeting vulnerable communities. It is imperative that society stands together against such acts of violence and discrimination.
