A 23-year-old woman has died after being found with a head injury on Silverthorne Road in Battersea, South West London, in the early hours of Thursday morning.
Metropolitan Police officers were called to the scene at approximately 2.30am on August 1 following reports of an injured woman. Emergency services, including the London Ambulance Service (LAS), attended the scene where they found the woman with a severe head injury. She was subsequently taken to a South London hospital, where she later died.
A police spokesperson said: “Police have confirmed that a woman found injured in the road in South London has died. Officers and the London Ambulance Service attended the scene at Silverthorne Road, SW8. At the scene, a 23-year-old woman was found with a head injury. She was taken by LAS to a South London hospital where she later died. Her next of kin have been informed. Detectives are working to establish the circumstances of the incident.”
This road is also known for a tragic incident in July 2019, when interior design student Giovanna Cappiello, 29, was killed by a cement lorry driven by Stephen Hempenstall. The driver missed opportunities to see her in his mirrors before turning left and running over her bicycle. Hempenstall was convicted of causing death by careless driving in February 2020 at Inner London Crown Court.
The recent incident has left the community in shock, with police urging anyone with information or dash-cam footage related to the incident to come forward.
