A man has been charged with rape, assault, and false imprisonment following an incident in Mitcham where a woman fell from a height, resulting in serious injuries.
Police were called to Mitcham Park shortly before 4 pm on Thursday, May 23, after reports that a woman had fallen from a height. Upon arrival, officers found a woman, believed to be in her 40s, with serious injuries. She was taken to the hospital, where her condition was initially assessed as life-threatening. Police have since confirmed that she remains in hospital in a stable condition.
Today (Saturday, May 25), a 47-year-old man from Mitcham was charged with rape, false imprisonment, ABH, and threatening to share photos or film of a person in an intimate state. He appeared at Wimbledon Magistrates’ Court the same day.
The man was initially arrested by officers at the scene on suspicion of attempted murder. He has been remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear next at Kingston Crown Court on Friday, June 21.
A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said: “Police were called to Mitcham Park, Mitcham at about 15:55hrs on Thursday, 23 May, following reports that a woman had fallen from a height. Officers attended and on arrival found a woman – believed to be aged in her 40s – with serious injuries. She was taken to hospital for treatment, where she remains in a stable condition.
“A 47-year-old man from Mitcham was charged Saturday, 25 May, with rape, false imprisonment, ABH, and threatening to share a photograph or film of a person in an intimate state. He appeared at Wimbledon Magistrates’ Court on the same day. He was initially arrested by officers at the scene on suspicion of attempted murder. He was remanded in custody to next appear at Kingston Crown Court on Friday, 21 June. The victim and the man are known to each other.”
