A family narrowly avoided a tragic outcome after their vehicle was struck by a lorry on a motorway following a breakdown. The incident serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of leaving vehicles and moving to a place of safety when waiting for roadside assistance.
The family had broken down on a busy motorway, exiting their car and positioning themselves behind safety barriers as advised. Moments later, an articulated lorry collided with their empty car at high speed, propelling it 20 meters down the road. The family’s two young children, who had been in the back seats, would have been directly impacted if they had not exited the vehicle.
“ALWAYS GET OUT OF YOUR CAR TO A PLACE OF SAFETY IF YOUR CAR BREAKS DOWN ON A MOTORWAY OR DUAL CARRIAGEWAY,” the driver urged in a social media post recounting the close call. Authorities are now investigating the incident, with early reports indicating the lorry driver may not have been fully attentive to the road.
