Urfan Sharif, the convicted killer of 10-year-old Sara Sharif, has reportedly been attacked in his prison cell on New Year’s Day by fellow inmate Steven Sansom, a notorious double murderer. The attack took place at HMP Belmarsh, where Sharif suffered deep wounds to his neck and face after being slashed with a makeshift weapon made from a tuna can lid.

Planned Attack Inside High-Security Prison

According to prison sources, the attack was orchestrated by two inmates, with Sansom allegedly cornering Sharif in his cell while another prisoner held the door shut.

Sharif, 43, was rushed to the prison’s medical facility, where he received stitches for deep cuts. Reports suggest he will be left scarred for life from the attack.

Why Was Sharif Targeted?

Prison insiders claim that other inmates at Belmarsh were disgusted by the details of Sara Sharif’s brutal murder, making Sharif a prime target.

A source said:
“Sharif has had a target on his back from the moment he arrived. Inmates don’t tolerate child killers. It was only a matter of time before someone got to him.”

Who is Steven Sansom?

Sansom, 46, is currently awaiting sentencing for the brutal murder and dismemberment of Sarah Mayhew, 38, whose remains were found scattered across Croydon and Mitcham. He was previously convicted in 1999 for the murder of a taxi driver, Terrence Boyle, whom he stabbed in the throat and back for just £25.

Sharif’s Crimes and Sentencing

Sharif was convicted in December 2024 for the murder of his daughter, Sara, who suffered 71 injuries, including burns, bites, and fractures, after prolonged physical and psychological abuse at the family’s home in Woking, Surrey.

Sara’s stepmother, Beinash Batool, 30, was sentenced to 33 years, while her uncle, Faisal Malik, 29, was convicted of causing or allowing a child’s death and received 16 years in prison.

Prison Officials Investigate the Attack

The Prison Service and the Metropolitan Police have confirmed an ongoing investigation into the attack on Sharif but declined to comment further.

A prison source stated:
“Sharif knows this won’t be the last time. Other prisoners won’t stop just because he was attacked once. He’ll be looking over his shoulder every day.”

Prison authorities are now considering isolating Sharif from the general population to prevent further attacks.
