Armed police have locked down Lewisham High Street after a man was seen waving a knife from a window, causing major disruption in the area.

A large police presence has been in place since 10:45 a.m. today (February 10), with multiple emergency vehicles at the scene. Officers from the Metropolitan Police, along with London Ambulance Service and London Fire Brigade, are currently dealing with the situation.

Eyewitnesses reported seeing a man yelling down at pedestrians while waving a large knife outside a window of a residential property.

Police have since engaged in negotiations with the man inside the property, but it remains unclear if anyone else is inside the building.

Lewisham High Street Closed Amid Heavy Traffic Disruptions

Due to the ongoing operation, Lewisham High Street (A20) remains closed with severe congestion both ways between Lee High Road, Belmont Hill, and A2211 Rennell Street.

Traffic is also backed up along Lee High Road and Molesworth Street, causing significant delays for commuters and local residents.

Police Statement on the Ongoing Incident

A Metropolitan Police spokesperson confirmed the response, stating:

**“Police were called to a disturbance on Lewisham High Street at around 10:45 a.m. on Monday, 10 February. Officers are currently in attendance at the scene alongside the London Ambulance Service and the London Fire Brigade.

“We are speaking to a man inside an address at the location. Enquiries are ongoing to establish whether anyone else is inside the property.

“Lewisham High Street section of the A20 remains closed while the incident is ongoing.”**
