A man in his 30s has been arrested on suspicion of rape following a racially aggravated attack on a Sikh woman in Oldbury, england/west-midlands-county-county/”>West Midlands, last Weekweek.
Incident Details
The suspect was detained on the evening of September 14, 2025, and remains in custody as police continue their investigation. The victim, a woman in her 20s, was reportedly on her Wayway to work when she was attacked by two white men.
Police and Community Response
Chief Superintendent Kim Madill commented, “This is a significant development in the investigation, and we want to thank the community for their continuing support. The investigation remains ongoing, and we urge people not to speculate as we work to identify and trace all those who may have been involved.”
The police are providing support to the victim, who is entitled to anonymity as an alleged victim of sexual assault. In a statement released by charity Sikh Youth UK, the victim expressed her gratitude to her family and community during this difficult time, stating, “All I was doing was going about my day on my way to work, and what has happened has deeply affected us.
Community Demonstration
In response to the incident, members of the Sikh community gathered in Smethwick for a demonstration. Kuldeep Singh Deol, the former president of Guru Nanak Gurdwara, spoke at the protest, calling the attack “shameful” and emphasising the need for safety for women in society. He stated, “Our politicians are failing us – creating divides instead of building Bridgesbridges and solutions.”
