A teenage girl has tragically died and another seriously injured in a shocking minibus crash in North Yorkshire.
The white Mercedes Sprinter minibus, packed with nine teens aged 16 to 18, smashed into a Hyundai i10 near Tadcaster Grammar School just before 12:30pm on Monday.
One girl died instantly at the scene. Another was rushed to hospital with serious but stable injuries.
Seven Hurt, Woman, 40, Arrested at Scene
Seven other passengers plus the minibus driver were treated for minor injuries in hospital.
North Yorkshire Police have arrested the 40-year-old woman driving the Hyundai on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.
The smash happened at the busy junction of Toulston Lane and Rudgate as the Hyundai entered Toulston Lane.
School Shut and Police Hunting Witnesses
Tadcaster Grammar School announced it will remain closed Tuesday, citing safety concerns on site following the crash.
Police are urging anyone with dashcam footage or who witnessed the collision to come forward immediately to aid their investigation.
“The incident happened on Toulston Lane – at the junction with Rudgate – at around 12.28pm on Monday,” confirmed North Yorkshire Police.
“The white Mercedes Sprinter minibus was heading towards Sherburn when the Hyundai entered Toulston Lane.
“Tragically, the girl died at the scene. Another teenage girl was taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
“Other passengers and the minibus driver received treatment for minor injuries.”
“Toulston Lane remains closed as enquiries continue.”
