A teenage girl has been named as the victim in a horror crash involving a minibus packed with sixth-formers in North Yorkshire.
Victim Identified as Eleanor Hague
Eleanor “Ellie” Hague, 16, tragically died instantly when a white Mercedes Sprinter minibus slammed into a Hyundai i10 car on a rural road in Tadcaster at around 12.28pm on Monday.
The minibus was carrying nine passengers aged 16 to 18 from Tadcaster Grammar School and Sherburn High School. Ellie was declared dead at the scene.
Details of the Collision
- The minibus was travelling towards Sherburn.
- The Hyundai entered Toulston Lane from Rudgate when the crash happened.
- One teenage girl suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital.
- Other passengers and the minibus driver have minor injuries.
Police Investigation and Arrest
The 40-year-old woman driving the Hyundai has been arrested and later released on conditional bail after questioning.
A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson urged witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage to come forward immediately, saying: “We urge everyone to respect the family’s wish to grieve in private.”
A Tadcaster town council spokesman added: “Our thoughts and deepest sympathies go out to all involved in this terrible tragedy, and their families.”
