Massive Internet Outage Hits Major Sites Including Zoom, LinkedIn, and Spotify

A huge slice of the web has just crashed, leaving millions of users locked out of popular sites and apps. Platforms relying on Cloudflare’s services – including Zoom, Canva, LinkedIn, and Down Detector – are currently down or glitching.

Cloudflare Crash Wipes Out Big Names

Earlier today, users reported widespread outages across platforms powered by Cloudflare, the company that manages and secures nearly 20% of all websites. Some of the biggest names affected include:

  • Discord and Notion
  • Spotify and Canva
  • GitHub and Stack Overflow
  • Shopping giants like Shopify, Etsy, Wayfair, and H&M
  • News outlets such as Politico, Axios, and the BBC
  • Even Down Detector, which tracks outages, is down

Cloudflare Still Quiet On Cause This Time

Cloudflare CEO Matthew Prince previously apologised after a similar outage in late November, which was blamed on a crash in their anti-DDoS system. DDoS attacks flood servers with traffic to knock websites offline, but Prince assured us last time this was not an attack, just a system failure.

Today, the exact cause remains unclear. But if your favourite apps and sites are failing, rest assured, you aren’t the only one.
