An investigation has been launched after antisemitic messages were discovered raked into bunkers at Hendon Golf Club on Friday, October 11. A member of staff reported the incident to the police, and the Metropolitan Police Service’s North West Command Unit, which covers Barnet, is leading the investigation.

Detective Chief Inspector Daniel Branch from the North West Command Unit acknowledged the distress caused by the act, particularly as it occurred during Yom Kippur, an important Jewish holiday. “We are aware of the shock and distress that this incident has caused, especially coming at a time when the Jewish community is celebrating Yom Kippur,” Branch stated.

The police are treating the incident as a racially aggravated hate crime. Officers from the North West Community Safety Unit are spearheading the investigation, aiming to identify and apprehend those responsible.

In the wake of the crime, police have increased their presence at the golf course and surrounding areas. Local community leaders have also been briefed, with authorities emphasizing the seriousness with which they are treating the case. “Following the incident, we have attended the golf course to support the club and have spoken to community leaders to ensure they are updated on the progress of this investigation,” Branch added.
