Londoners are being urged to stay vigilant after reports of scam websites falsely advertising tickets for tonight’s New Year’s Eve fireworks display. The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, has issued a warning via social media, emphasizing that all official tickets for the event are sold out and no legitimate resales are available.
Mayor’s Statement
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), the Mayor wrote:
“? Scam alert: we are aware of convincing scam websites pretending to sell tickets for tonight’s fireworks. Don’t lose your money: NYE fireworks tickets are SOLD OUT and not available anywhere. Resale has closed.”
The warning comes as fraudsters attempt to exploit the high demand for tickets to London’s iconic fireworks show, held along the River Thames. Thousands are expected to attend the event, which has become a centerpiece of the city’s New Year celebrations.
Public Safety and Awareness
Authorities are advising the public to ignore any websites or individuals claiming to have tickets for sale. Purchasing from unofficial sources not only risks financial loss but could also lead to sharing personal information with scammers.
What to Do if Targeted
If you suspect you’ve encountered a scam website or have fallen victim to one, you should report it to Action Fraud via their website or by calling 0300 123 2040. Those who have paid for fake tickets are encouraged to contact their bank or payment provider immediately.
Official Advice
The Mayor’s office reiterates that there is no way to obtain tickets legally at this stage and warns Londoners not to travel to the event without a valid ticket. Non-ticket holders are encouraged to enjoy the celebrations from home or through live broadcasts.
Stay alert, and let’s ring in the New Year safely!
