A helicopter used by firefighters in Finistère, France, crashed into a pond on Sunday while attempting to refill its water bucket during operations to tackle forest fires.
Crew Escape
Both the pilot and a firefighter passenger managed to escape from the wreckage without serious injuries, according to local reports. Emergency services attended the scene quickly, and the two men were taken for medical checks.
Cause Under Investigation
Authorities confirmed that the helicopter was in the process of scooping water when the accident occurred. An investigation has been launched to establish the circumstances of the crash.
The aircraft has since been recovered from the pond.
Ongoing Fire Risk
Firefighting operations in the region have continued despite the setback, with crews warning of elevated wildfire risks due to ongoing hot and dry weather conditions in western France.
More updates are expected from the French Civil Security and regional fire service later today.
