Police are appealing for witnesses after a serious collision on the A23 Horley Road yesterday morning (Saturday, 9 August) left an elderly woman fighting for her life.

Emergency services were called at around 8:30am to the junction with Earlswood Road following a crash involving three cars and a lorry.

A passenger in one of the cars, a woman in her 80s, was airlifted to hospital with life-threatening injuries. Six other people were also taken to hospital for treatment.

A 25-year-old man from East Grinstead was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and causing serious injury by careless driving. He remains in custody while enquiries continue.

Detectives are now urging anyone who may have witnessed the collision, or who has CCTV, dash-cam, or helmet-cam footage, to come forward.

A police spokesperson said:
