A former West Midlands Police call handler has been charged with supplying Class A drugs following an investigation directed by the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).

Alisha Iftikhar, 25, is accused of supplying cocaine in Birmingham between 1 December 2023 and 4 June 2024, in breach of the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971. She is due to appear at Birmingham Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, 17 April.

The charge follows an investigation carried out by West Midlands Police’s Counter Corruption Unit, under the oversight of the IOPC’s Anti-Corruption Unit. The probe was launched after the force made a mandatory referral to the IOPC in February 2024.

In a statement issued today, the IOPC confirmed that, following the conclusion of the investigation, the case was referred to the Crown Prosecution Service, which authorised the charge.

An IOPC spokesperson said:

“We can confirm that a former member of West Midlands Police staff is to appear in court this week charged with supplying drugs. Our Anti-Corruption Unit directed a thorough investigation following a referral from the force earlier this year. The charge reflects the seriousness of the allegations.”

West Midlands Police have not made further comment ahead of the court appearance.

This case is the latest in a series of incidents involving law enforcement personnel under scrutiny for alleged criminal activity. The IOPC continues to highlight the importance of transparency and integrity in policing, particularly among staff in sensitive roles such as emergency call handling.
