Police Response

Detective Sergeant Kurt Timpson, from the Merseyside Police Serious Collision Investigation Unit, expressed condolences to Kate’s family, commending their strength and dignity throughout the investigation. He stated:

“No sentence can ever make up for the loss of a human life, but today’s sentencing reflects the seriousness of Hughes’ reckless actions. Driving under the influence of drugs is completely unacceptable and preventable, as seen in this devastating case.

DS Timpson added:

“We urge anyone who risks driving while impaired to think of the potential consequences. Kate’s life was cut short, and her family has been left to cope with unimaginable grief.

Family Tribute

Kate’s family issued a heartfelt statement, highlighting the devastating impact of her loss:

Kate was a bright and funny young girl who lit up every room she entered. She loved dancing, holidays, and spending time with friends. She had so much to look forward to and didn’t deserve to have her life taken so tragically.

“We hope people will learn from this and make safer choices. If you have a loved one, tell them never to get in a car with someone who has been using drugs. Cherish your loved ones and always prioritize safety.”
