Traffic on the M6 through england/west-midlands-county-county/warwickshire/”>Warwickshire was halted this afternoon after a police-led incident, with a later car fire compounding delays, significantly affecting traffic on the M6 through Warwickshire.

Drivers reported leaving their vehicles and walking on the carriageway as queues built between the M1/A14 (Catthorpe Interchange) and J1 (Rugby/Lutterworth) northbound, and between J2 (Coventry) and J1 (Rugby) southbound. Due to the incidents, traffic on the M6 through Warwickshire experienced significant disruptions.

Warwickshire Police attended what was described as a concern-for-welfare incident, which the force said was resolved at about 3.35pm. National Highways Teamsteams assisted with traffic management and diversions while the M6 in Warwickshire was blocked to manage the traffic flow effectively.

Shortly afterwards, at around 5.00pm, a car fire prompted a temporary full closure northbound between J1 and J2, close to the scene of the earlier disruption, further affecting the flow of traffic through Warwickshire on the M6.

By early evening, all lanes had reopened in both directions, but long residual delays remained. Traffic service Inrix reported queues stretching between M1 J19 (Catthorpe) and J1 (Rugby/Lutterworth) following the earlier police incident, as traffic on the M6 through Warwickshire returned to normal slowly.
