A murder investigation has been launched in Poole, Dorset, after a man and a woman, both in their 70s, were found dead inside their home.

Emergency services were called to the property on Anthony’s Avenue at around 11:35am today (December 31) after the tragic discovery. Dorset Police confirmed that the deceased were known to each other and that their next of kin have been informed. The coroner has also been notified.

Police Statement

Detective Inspector Ian Allen of Dorset Police described the incident as a “very sad situation,” adding:
“We are doing all we can to support the next of kin. Officers are carrying out enquiries to establish exactly what happened, and a cordon is in place to allow a thorough investigation of the scene.

At this stage, police do not believe anyone else was involved in the incident, but investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the deaths.

Appeal for Information

Detective Inspector Allen urged anyone with information to come forward:
“We are trying to establish a timeline of what happened, particularly over the Christmas holidays up until today. There will be an increased police presence in the area, and we encourage anyone with concerns or information to speak to local officers.”
