Detectives have launched a murder investigation after a young woman was killed during a fatal assault in Romford.
Police were called at 05:34hrs to reports of an assault in Chadwell Heath, Romford. Officers attended with the London Ambulance Service, but despite efforts by paramedics, the victim – believed to be in her twenties – was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
Formal identification has not yet taken place, but the woman’s family have been informed and are being supported by specially trained family liaison officers. A post-mortem examination will be scheduled in due course.
At this stage, no arrests have been made. Detectives say enquiries are at an early stage as they work to establish the full circumstances of the incident.

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called at 5:34am today (Saturday 16 August) to reports of an incident on Chadwell Heath Lane, Romford.
“We sent a number of resources to the scene, including ambulance crews, an incident response officer and an Advanced Paramedic.
“Sadly, despite the best efforts of the emergency services, a woman was pronounced dead at the scene.”
Detective Superintendent Brian Hobbs from the Met Polcie said:
“Our thoughts today are with the victim’s family and friends in light of this truly tragic event.
Local residents will see an increased number of officers in and around the area while our investigative work is carried out. I want to thank residents for their patience while this continues.
I would ask anyone who was in the area of Romford, who may have seen or heard anything suspicious, to come forward to us.”
