Two men have been handed substantial prison sentences after a violent assault in Bracknell, following an investigation by Thames Valley Police.
Billy-Ray Barclay, 35, of Victoria Avenue, Camberley, was sentenced to eight years and six months in prison, while Nathan Mushidi, 24, of no fixed abode, received a six-year sentence. The sentencing took place at Reading Crown Court on Wednesday.
Barclay was found guilty of one count each of Section 18 grievous bodily harm with intent and possession of a bladed article, following a four-day trial. Meanwhile, Mushidi was found guilty of one count of Section 18 grievous bodily harm with intent.
The incident occurred on October 17 last year when the victim, a man in his thirties, met Mushidi regarding a dispute over money owed. Expecting to meet Mushidi alone at Priestwood Square, the victim was instead ambushed by both Mushidi and Barclay, who launched a vicious attack.
During the assault, Barclay stabbed the victim in the back with a knife, causing an 8cm wound dangerously close to the victim’s spine. The victim required surgery but has since recovered.
Both Barclay and Mushidi were arrested on April 14, with Mushidi being charged the following day and Barclay on May 13 last year.
Detective Constable Clare Hickman, of Loddon Valley CID, commended the victim for their courage throughout the investigation and emphasized the seriousness with which the police tackle knife crime. She urged the community to report any information about individuals carrying knives, highlighting the partnership efforts to make the streets safer.
The sentencing of Barclay and Mushidi sends a clear message that violent acts involving knives will not be tolerated, reinforcing the commitment of law enforcement to ensuring the safety of communities in Bracknell.
