A 23-year-old Swindon man has been found guilty of multiple offences, including threatening to kill a woman and assaulting police officers. Claudio Stroud, of Tennyson Street, was convicted by a jury at Swindon Crown Court on Monday, September 30.

The charges stem from an incident on March 22, 2023, when officers were called to an address in Swindon. A woman in her 20s reported to officers that she had been repeatedly assaulted by Stroud, who was her partner at the time.

Stroud was arrested the following day, during which he assaulted two police officers. He was subsequently charged with a series of offences, including threats to kill, two counts of threatening with an offensive weapon in a private place, controlling and coercive behaviour, two counts of actual bodily harm, and two counts of assaulting an emergency worker.

After a trial by jury, Stroud was found guilty of all charges and has been remanded in custody. He is due to be sentenced on November 15.

Trainee Complex Crime Investigator Catherine Baird from the CID unit praised the bravery of the victim and the witnesses who played a crucial role in securing the conviction. Stroud is a dangerous offender, and I’m pleased that a jury has found him guilty of these offences. Their support for this prosecution means that they and other women are safeguarded from Stroud,” Baird said.

The case highlights the importance of coming forward in the face of domestic abuse, and the police have commended the victim for her courage throughout the process.
