A man who raped a woman has been sentenced to seven and a half years in prison.
Danny Pechap, 21, attacked the victim, a woman in her 20s, following a party they both attended on Friday 26 April this year.
The victim and the defendant did not know each other but had mutual friends in common. The defendant, of Birds Nest Avenue, Leicester, went back to the address where the victim was staying and raped her while she slept.
When she woke the following morning, she found her shorts on the wrong way round, and that they had blood on them.
She went to A&E and the assault was reported to police.
The defendant, known to the sister of the victim, was arrested and an investigation was carried out, including seizing a number of mobile phones, DNA samples and clothing.
Emma Bailey, the police investigating officer, from the force’s Signal team, said: “Two mobile phones were taken from the defendant, one of which showed videos of the assault taking place.
“He took advantage of her, taking off her clothes, while she was unable to stop him.”
The victim reported that a bedsheet was missing from the room, suspecting that the defendant had taken it with him.
The defendant admitted taking it with him, saying it was stained with blood, and throwing it in a bin away from the accommodation. The sheet was never found, but he clearly knew it would be damning if it was left in the room.
Miss Bailey added: “This young woman was subjected to a sexual assault, leaving her scared and concerned about what might happen to her in the future.
“No one should be left to feel like this.”
Pechap appeared at Leicester Crown Court today (Thursday 10 October) to be sentenced. He entered a guilty plea to one count of rape of a woman over 16 at the same court on 29 August.
