A 46-year-old man from Chippenham has been fined over £2,000 after dashcam footage captured him driving without due care and attention in Corsham. David Simon Mayne was convicted at Swindon Magistrates’ Court on October 7, following an incident that occurred on September 7, 2023.

The footage, submitted by an off-duty officer, showed Mayne overtaking a car in his Porsche Cayman and speeding through a red light at the junction of Bath Road and Cross Keys Road shortly after 7 p.m. Mayne pleaded guilty to the offence and was ordered to pay £2,185 in fines and court costs. His driving record was also endorsed with six penalty points.

Sergeant Bott of Wiltshire’s Roads Policing Unit praised the submission of the dashcam footage: “This offender was brought to justice thanks to a quick-thinking off-duty officer who sent us a video clip of Mayne’s careless driving.”

Wiltshire Police are urging the public to submit dashcam footage of road offences in a timely manner, as notices of prosecution must be served within 14 days of the offence. Members of the public can submit footage via the National Dashcam Safety Portal, hosted by Nextbase.
