The funeral of former One Direction star Liam Payne will take place tomorrow, with all four of his bandmates—Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson, and Zayn Malik—expected to attend to say their final goodbyes.

The 31-year-old singer tragically passed away last month after sustaining head injuries from a fall from the balcony of his third-floor hotel suite in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Payne had travelled to Argentina in September to renew his U.S. visa and to support his friend and bandmate, Niall Horan, at a concert.

His devastated father, Geoff Payne, brought his remains back to the UK two weeks ago after Argentinian authorities completed their investigations.

The private funeral, to be held in the Home Counties, will be attended by family and close friends, followed by a wake. Payne’s son, Bear, and other loved ones are expected to honour his memory in an intimate ceremony.

Bandmates’ Joint Statement and Tributes

Following Liam’s death, his former bandmates released a heartfelt joint statement expressing their grief:
“We are completely devastated. The memories we shared with him will be treasured forever. For now, our thoughts are with his family, his friends, and the fans who loved him alongside us. We will miss him terribly. We love you, Liam—Louis, Zayn, Niall, and Harry.

Individually, each member also paid tribute to their late friend.

  • Harry Styles described Liam as someone who “lived wide open, with his heart on his sleeve,” adding, “He was warm, supportive, and incredibly loving. I will miss him always, my lovely friend.”
  • Louis Tomlinson expressed his struggle with saying goodbye, writing: “I’m so grateful we got even closer since the band. I would have loved to share the stage with you again. Payno, my boy, one of my best friends, my brother, I love you, mate.”
  • Zayn Malik shared his heartbreak: “I lost a brother when you left us. I hope that wherever you are right now, you are at peace and know how loved you are. Love you, bro.”

Fans Around the World Pay Their Respects

Tributes for Liam have poured in globally. Fans have left flowers, notes, and mementoes at significant locations, including St. Peter’s Collegiate Church in Wolverhampton, Payne’s hometown, and the Monument of the Revolution in Mexico City.

Social media platforms have been flooded with messages of support for Payne’s family, as well as remembrances of his contributions to One Direction’s success and his solo career.
