Emergency services were called to Hornchurch after a Ford Fiesta collided with a lamp post, narrowly avoiding a Toyota car showroom. The incident, which occurred on Thursday afternoon, left the lamp post heavily damaged and airbags deployed inside the vehicle.

Officers from the Metropolitan Police, paramedics from the London Ambulance Service, and firefighters from the London Fire Brigade attended the scene. The area was cordoned off as safety measures were taken, including isolating the power supply to the damaged lamp post.

The Fiesta, which was not associated with the Toyota vehicles on display, came within meters of causing significant damage to a forecourt containing hundreds of thousands of pounds worth of new cars.

No serious injuries have been reported, though emergency services have yet to confirm the condition of the driver. A safety sticker was placed on the damaged vehicle, and inquiries are ongoing.
