Travellers using the Eurotunnel to travel between Folkestone and Calais have expressed frustration after a train belonging to Eurostar became stuck in the Channel Tunnel, causing significant delays of more than four hours.
The incident occurred earlier this morning when a train encountered a technical issue, forcing Eurotunnel operators to close part of the track. Services have been reduced to a single lane, exacerbating the disruption during the busy holiday travel period.

Passenger Frustration
Stranded travellers have taken to social media to vent their anger:
Martyn S wrote: “A Eurotunnel train is stuck in a tunnel, and service is constrained to a single lane running. Boarding lanes are full, the car park is full, and no admissions are being allowed through check-in.”
Another passenger, Chip Cain, shared: “I’ve been stuck in the Channel for more than an hour. No air, no updates. Thanks for ruining our vacation.”

Gaby Koppel, who was on the affected service, reported being stationary in the tunnel for two hours before receiving an update.

Impact on Services
The stalled train has now resumed movement at reduced speed and is en route to Calais, where passengers will be transferred to another train to continue their journeys. However, the delays have caused significant congestion at the Folkestone terminal, with queues spilling onto the M20 slip road.

Current delays at around four and a half hours for passengers attempting to board in Folkestone.
Eurotunnel and Eurostar Response
A Eurotunnel spokesperson has apologised for the disruption, stating:
“Train 9080 had a technical issue this morning. This train is now running at reduced speed to Calais, where passengers will be transferred to another Eurostar train to continue their journey to Paris. Thank you for your understanding.”
