The King’s New Year Honours List has recognised the exceptional service of Metropolitan Police officers and staff, highlighting their bravery, compassion, and dedication to public service.

The honourees come from across all ranks and areas of the organisation, showcasing the critical and diverse roles they play in ensuring safety and justice. From tackling national security issues to supporting vulnerable communities, their contributions have left a lasting impact.

Commissioner’s Statement

Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley expressed his pride in the recipients, saying:

Honourees and Awards:

Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE):

  • Jenny Leonard, Director of Operational Policing Law
    Recognised for her services to policing and national security, particularly her leadership in police law and the use of innovative technology.

British Empire Medal (BEM):

  • Marek Regan, PCSO
    For 12 years of tireless work creating safe environments for young people through community sports, including the Hampton Rangers Junior Football Club.
  • William Smith, PCSO
    For 20 years of dedication to the Whitton community, helping it become one of the safest areas in Greater London.

King’s Police Medal (KPM):

  • Matt Twist, Assistant Commissioner
    For distinguished leadership in numerous challenging roles, including implementing critical national policing changes.
  • Mark O’Dell, Inspector
    For 18 years of frontline service in Croydon and his efforts to support officers dealing with trauma and PTSD.
  • Emma Harris, Detective Sergeant
    For sustained efforts to improve officer welfare and address trauma risks in investigations.
  • Matthew Hardcastle, Constable
    For his work supporting bereaved police families and colleagues, alongside his role in public order planning.

Appointments in the Royal Victorian Order (MVO):

  • Sergeant Neil Duncan March
    For dedicated service in royalty and specialist protection.
  • Constable Ian Hadley Smith
    For exemplary service in royalty and specialist protection.

Royal Victorian Medal (RVM) Silver:

  • Constable Philip John Watkins
    For loyal service in royalty and specialist protection.
