A 43-year-old man arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life following a fire on Erith Pier has been released on bail, pending further enquiries.

Emergency services raced to the scene on Friday, 9 May, after a large fire broke out around 5pm, sending thick smoke billowing into the sky.

 Firefighters Tackle Dramatic Blaze

Images shared online showed %%UKNIP_ANCHOR_0%% Fire Brigade crews battling the flames. The %%UKNIP_ANCHOR_1%% Ambulance Service confirmed it was called at 4.47pm, dispatching:

Fortunately, no %%UKNIP_ANCHOR_5%% at the scene.

Police Confirm Bail and Ongoing Investigation

The man, who was %%UKNIP_ANCHOR_6%%, was taken into custody and questioned. He has %%UKNIP_ANCHOR_7%% been released on bail as the investigation continues.

"No charges have been brought forward at this stage," a %%UKNIP_ANCHOR_8%% spokesperson said.
