Suspected Chatham Drug Dealer Arrested After Foot Chase Near River Medway

A 23-year-old man from Rochester has been arrested following a dramatic foot chase through Chatham, which led to the recovery of suspected Class A and B drugs, a knife, and a significant amount of cash.

The incident unfolded at around 4pm on Monday, July 7, when officers on patrol observed a man acting suspiciously on Chatham High Street. Upon being approached, the suspect fled the scene on foot, discarding a mobile phone and plastic bag during the pursuit.

Arrest at Sun Wharf

The chase concluded at Sun Wharf, where officers made an arrest. A subsequent search resulted in the seizure of:

  • Suspected heroin and ketamine
  • Cannabis
  • A knife
  • A set of digital scales
  • Around £2,300 in cash

With support from Kent Fire and Rescue Service, police divers recovered the discarded bag and mobile phone from the River Medway.

Ongoing Investigation

The man, aged 23 and from Rochester, was taken into custody and later bailed pending further enquiries.

A spokesperson for Kent Police said:

“This arrest forms part of our continued efforts to tackle drug-related crime in Chatham and across Medway. Officers remain committed to disrupting supply networks and bringing offenders to justice.”
