A man has been charged with rape following the attack of a woman in her 20s on Merton High Street in the early hours of Saturday, 23 August.

The incident happened at around 3.30am. Police said the victim reported being attacked and is now being supported by specially trained officers.

Arrest and Charge

On Sunday, 24 August, officers arrested Tomas Hunt, 35, of Ruxley Close, Sidcup. He has since been charged with rape.

Hunt has been remanded in custody and is due to appear at Wimbledon Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 26 August.

Police Statement

A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said:

“A man has been charged with the rape of a woman in her 20s following an incident which took place on Merton High Street at around 03:30hrs on Saturday, 23 August.

Tomas Hunt, 35, of Ruxley Close, Sidcup, was arrested on Sunday, 24 August and has now been charged with rape. He has been remanded in custody and is due to appear before Wimbledon Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 26 August.

The victim continues to be supported by specially trained officers.”
