A major section of the M20 motorway has been shut westbound this morning after a serious crash involving two lorries and two cars.
The collision happened shortly before 3am on Friday, 29 August, between Junction 9 (Ashford) and Junction 8 (Maidstone) on the London-bound carriageway.

Emergency Response
National Highways confirmed all westbound lanes remain closed. Emergency services and traffic officers are on scene, alongside contractors tasked with clearing debris and repairing significant damage to the central reservation barrier.

A spokesperson said:

There is a large amount of debris across the carriageway and damage to the central reservation barrier. National Highways contractors will be attending to assist with clear-up works and repairs.”

Drivers trapped inside the closure were being released from about 5.30am, officials said.
Ongoing Inspections
A nearby bridge was also being inspected for possible damage following the collision.
